FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Alkaline water?

Natural water on our planet ranges in pH from 6.5 to 9.0, depending on surrounding soil and vegetation, seasonal variations and weather, and even time of day responses to sunlight. Human activities further influence the pH of our water, from the barrage of toxic industrial pollutants. Alkaline water is water that has a pH level higher than seven. Drinking and cooking with alkaline water has been found to increase vitality and energy levels, clean and detoxify the body and decrease the symptoms of some illnesses.

Is Alkaline water really best?

The human body is complex. Claiming that everyone needs to “alkalize” might be an over-simplification. There are various ways that the body maintains pH balance, if pH is out of range, it’s important to get to the underlying cause. Without knowing the cause, you can’t determine whether alkaline water will really help you.

How Alkaline water is better than RO water or distillation?

Unlike Reverse Osmosis (RO) and distillation, which remove all minerals leaving the water dead and acidic. Water from RO or distillation is very acid (pH 4.5-6.5) and so contributes to the over acidity of our bodies. Alkaline antioxidant water helps counteract acid / alkaline imbalance. Because RO and Distilled waters are mineral deficient and strongly acid, there are warnings from a number of physicians not to drink them on a sustained basis. While RO and distilled waters are strongly oxidizing, alkaline ionized water is a proven powerful antioxidant, equivalent to fresh squeezed orange juice (without the sugar). Having been completely demineralized, RO, distilled water, and most bottled waters are flat tasting. The tastiness of water from Alkazone® ionizers is one of its most immediate qualities: it brings delighted responses from everyone! Along with this are the superior hydrating qualities due to the ionization. This same ionization happens in nature when water glides over rocks and waterfalls.

What is ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential) and how important is it for our body?

The oxidation reduction potential (ORP) is the electrical potential needed to reduce or slow down the oxidation such as rusting. Alkaline water must have a negative ORP in order to be considered good, especially for drinking. ORP is the strength to bond with active oxygen reducing power, and can be measured through electronic monitoring device. A negative value is desirable for deoxidization power. A negative ORP reading indicates that a substance will give electrons and reduce other cells. The lower the reading, the less likely it will be to oxidize molecules around it making it an ‘anti-oxidant’. Electronically ionized Alkaline water has a reduced ORP value, meaning that it works to slow down the degradation of your life cells.

How much alkaline water should I drink everyday?

Doctors recommend at least 8 glasses of water per day. If you are not used to drinking a lot of water, start out by drinking 3-4 glasses of alkaline water per day (approx. 1 litre) and gradually increase your water intake to 8-12 glasses per day (2 to 3 litres).

What PH level should I select on my ionizer when I start drinking Alkaline water?

Start out gradually by drinking water at low level pH (8.5 pH) for the first week. If the water agrees with your body, move up to 9.0 pH during the second wee, and then to 9.5 pH third week onwards. 8.5-9.5 pH is considered to be safe for daily consumption. People who are sick or have fragile health, the elderly, and people who are very acidic, may have to slow down the adaptation process and stay on each level for two or more weeks before moving up to the next pH setting in order to help the body gradually get used to the alkaline water intake.

Are there any side effects related to drinking Alkaline water?

When you start drinking alkaline water, normal side effects may include headaches, fatigue, muscle aches, a runny nose, and other flu-like symptoms. Also, your stool will likely be darker, softer, or more odorous and you may experience gas. These side-effects are related to the detoxification that your body is undergoing as the micro-clustered water penetrates deep into your tissues and expels acid waste and toxins that have accumulated in your body over time. Side-effects will subside once your body has become accustomed to the water, anywhere from 2-3 days to 2-3 weeks, depending on each individual and the level of detoxification that the body needs to undergo.

Can I drink Alkaline water with meals?

No. Do not drink ionized water 1 hour before and up to 2 hours after meals. Our stomach needs to be acidic to digest the food we eat, and drinking alkaline water with meals will simply slow down the digestion process.

When is the best time to drink Alkaline water?

Have your first glass of the day right when you get out of bed. The water absorbs best into the system when your stomach is empty. Then you should continue to drink alkaline water throughout the day. Remember not to drink ionized (pH > 7) water 1 hour before and up to 2 hours after meals and medication.

Who should not drink Alkaline ionized water?

Some people should start by drinking very small amounts of alkaline water, such as 1-2 glasses of Level 1 (8.5 pH) per day. This is especially true of older people who often have accumulated toxins in their bodies over the course of their lifetime. Children under the age of 3 should not drink alkaline water, but only purified water from the ionizer (pH 7). Thus, they will benefit from the ionizer’s filtration that removes chlorine and other contaminants from tap water. Children between the ages of 4 years and 12 years should only drink alkaline water at Level 1 (pH 8.5). Kidney patients are also recommended to slow down the adaption of Alkaline water.

Does Alkaline ionized water taste different?

Yes. Water that enters the ionizers first goes through a filter that removes the taste and odour of chlorine contained in municipal tap water. Then electrolysis breaks down the size of the water clusters, from 12-16 molecules to micro-clusters of 5-8 molecules. This makes the water taste smoother and silkier. Alkaline water tastes great, and makes better tasting coffee, tea and juice. It is also wonderful to cook with because it helps hydrate the food and bring out its flavour.

How long does Alkaline water stay ionized?

All consumer sized water ionizers are designed for immediate "point of use" consumption. The water molecules that have been separated and rendered instable through electrolysis will slowly come back into a stable state. This is the reason that ionized water cannot be bottled as its properties are temporary. The antioxidant properties (hydroxyl ions) of alkaline ionized water will dissipate in 18-24 hours, the higher pH properties will come back to a neutral pH level of 7 within 1-2 weeks, and the smaller molecule cluster size will last approximately 1-3 months. It is best to drink alkaline water straight from the ionizer, but failing that, store the water in a glass container in a dark, cool place, such as the refrigerator.

When will I begin noticing the health benefits?

Each person is different, and as such, the body’s response to drinking alkaline water varies from person to person. You might start noticing a positive response in as little as one day or within a few weeks. However, based on your body pH balance the visible effect varies from person to person.

Is Alkaline ionized water good for sports persons as well?

Absolutely! Proper hydration sustains the body's physiological responses in all activities, but the physical and mental stresses of athletic training and competition magnify the importance of hydration. Numerous studies conducted on athletes since the 1940s have demonstrated that even mild dehydration impairs the performance. Alkaline ionized water is micro-clustered, so it can be absorbed at a faster rate, helping with rehydration of the body’s tissues. Furthermore, blood oxygen levels increase with regular use of alkaline water. providing the muscles tissue and organs with high amounts of oxygen and improving stamina and endurance. Water that has been alkalized also helps to neutralize the exercise induced lactic acid build up in the muscles, and improves recovery time.

Can I give Alkaline water to infants or small kids?

Children under the age of 3 should drink only purified water (pH= ~7), and not Alkaline water (pH >8). Thus, they will benefit from the ionizer’s filtration that removes chlorine and other contaminants from tap water. Children between the ages of 4 years and 12 years should only drink alkaline water at Level 1 (pH 8.5).

How do I know if I am out of pH balance?

Several external signs can show that one's body is too acidic. Some examples include an unexplained rash, acne, dark circles under the eyes, cracked skin and nails, brittle hair, and excess weight. Other signs include stomach upset and indigestion, confusion, anger, or irritability, food sensitivity and allergic reactions, recurrent infections, fatigue, and even depression. When one improves the body’s pH balance through an alkaline diet, including plentiful fresh, raw alkaline foods and alkaline water, the body’s natural defence mechanisms are able to function properly and fight off illness and disease and naturally restore optimal health conditions.

Does my ionizer need a pre-filter?

It depends on quality of your water source. However, a pre filter will help extend the life of the Alkaline Ionizer filter. It is recommended to use the pre-filter for the Ionizer and if the T.D.S of input water is great than 200, it is must to use the pre-filter.
